Spring & Summer Trends for 2021

Spring is quickly approaching and the high street is already carrying the latest trends for 2021. I’d love to know how you feel about trends. The world has changed so much… Do we really care about whats going to be trendy this spring and summer? With high hopes that this year will be different and more enjoyable… I decided to compile some of my favorite and most wearable fashion trends for spring and summer 2021.

Please take all of these selected trends lightly, as style is subjective. So I encourage you to wear what makes you feel good and that matches your personality. Understand, this does not mean you need to go out and buy a new wardrobe. You can probably recreate a lot of these looks with pieces you already have at home, but maybe style them differently. Please wear what you love, since that is what makes you and your style unique. So just for fun…. Lets get into it!

Elevated Lounge Wear

Comfort is a habit that is hard to break, and I’m very grateful for this trend. Matching sets are huge right now, and this trend isn’t going away anytime soon. I always ask myself ” Would I answer the front door in this?”. If not, you might want to consider adding some elevated lounge wear to your wardrobe.

Second Skin Tops

These fitted tops are great for layering under things or to wear on their own. However, they do leave little to the imagination as they are mostly made from (a high percentage) spandex. Think of leggings, but as a shirt! An easy way to wear this trend is to pair them with something looser on the bottom, such as wide leg trousers, mom jeans, or a skirt.

Vests

Whether you are styling a utility or a sweater vest, the outfit possibilities are endless. These versatile layering pieces can steer towards preppy, whimsical, masculine, and easily chic. Try layering an oversized sweater vest over a dress with the bottom poking out. Another option, is to layer one over a crisp white button down with a pair of smart trousers (or a mini skirt!). The extra warmth is an added bonus for those chilly spring days.

Colors

First and foremost, I’m just going to lump all these color trends together. Since I believe that people should wear whatever colors they feel good in. Illuminating Yellow, for instance is one of 2021 Pantone colors of the year, but not many people can pull that color off. (*Unless you are lucky to have medium/olive skin, or are a dark skinned goddess). Finding the right shade of yellow can be tricky, but knowing your undertones can help you find the perfect match.

Bubble Gum Pink is another hot color for this year and luckily it looks great on many people.

Neutrals from head to toe is always in style, but this tonal monochrome look is going to be everywhere this summer. This is probably the most wearable of the trends for 2021. If you’d like to read more about monochrome, please check out my post here

Ultimate Gray is another 2021 Pantone color; which is a very easy and flattering color to wear for most people. It also pairs well with yellow!

A total classic with a twist, is black & white together; but mostly in solids, houndstooth, or in checker board print. We will still be seeing stripes and polka dots, but not as much.

Wide Leg Pants

After being in lounge wear for so long (thanks pandemic!), the idea of jumping into our skinny jeans might not seem so great. Thankfully, wide leg trousers and jeans are here to keep us comfortable. I’d suggest pairing these with a fitted top (such as a second skin top I mentioned above) to keep the silhouette more flattering.

Jewelry

Don’t worry, dainty gold jewelry isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. However, you might want to make room for some pearls (I LOVE Audrey Hepburn), and some heavy metal in your jewelry box. Pearl earrings are part of my everyday look, but pearl necklaces are going to have a moment, and I’m here for it. You probably noticed that statement jewelry has taken a back seat for a while, but its coming back as a single chunky gold or silver chain necklace. Also, long necklaces were seen all over the runway; which can create vertical visual interest and can make one appear taller!

Mini Skirts

I’ll keep this short (no pun intended) and sweet. Mini skirts are not for everyone and might not be practical for everyday life, but I love them. Being a petite, a typical mini skirt really isn’t that short on me, so I will be rocking this trend this spring and summer. To wear this look tastefully, I’d suggest going with a conservative top (no cleavage), since you will be showing some leg.

Volume

Volume is obviously BIG at the moment and will continue to be for this year. You will see this trend in puff sleeve tops, tees with shoulder pads, balloon sleeve tops, and dresses. Also, I’ve seen a lot of 1940’s style silhouette dresses already in stores! Think of voluminous skirts, with a fitted waist, and puff sleeves. This is such a flattering, feminine, and classic silhouette; since its gives you a gorgeous hour glass shape!

Lingerie

You may have seen this trend creep on in over the past year, but in 2021 its coming in hot! It’s no surprise that lingerie is making its way out of the bedroom and into our everyday looks. If you look closely, you will see bra tops sold with sweater sets, corsets in dresses, smocking on tops, and boning in many garments… including wedding dresses! This trend will not be for everyone (and that’s fine), but for those who are going to give this trend a try, will enjoy how flattering these pieces can be.

If you made it this far… THANK YOU! I hope you enjoyed reading this post and seeing the upcoming trends for 2021. Let me know what your favorite trends are, or if you avoid them all together. Thanks for reading and stay fabulous!
