How To Find Your Perfect Ankle Booties

Ankle booties are extremely versatile and are considered a fall staple for a reason. As the weather gets colder most of your outfit is pretty much covered, as people only really see your jacket and your shoes. This is why I think its important to invest in a good bootie (and coat!)

When finding your perfect fall bootie, you need to consider your lifestyle.  Using me as an example, I’m a busy mom and a professional who works in an office setting.  While I own many different style booties, the majority of them have a very low heel height (1-3”) and are leather, since that fits my lifestyle.  There are many options to choose from out there, to suit everyone’s personal style.  Booties come in a variety of materials, colors, details, heel heights, and silhouettes… and I just LOVE them all!

Leather Ankle Booties

Plain Black | Combat Boots | Crocodile Embossed

*If the exact booties are not available, I will link a similar option instead.

Leather is probably my favorite material when comes to booties. I’m obviously partial to black, but they can come in many different color options.  The combat boots I listed above are not in stock, but I linked a Steve Madden option that I just adore (Check out the “Wine” color!). I get the most cost per wear out of my black leather ankle booties, because I can dress them up for a chic look, or dress them down for an edgier style.  In general, these are the easiest boots to wear, since they add a contrast to an outfit when paired with a soft fuzzy sweater, jeans, or suede skirt.  They’re also the easiest to clean, because when leather boots get dirty, they can be quickly wiped down and they look like new.

Suede Ankle Booties

Sock Bootie | Block Heel Bootie | Stiletto Heel Bootie | Chelsea Bootie

*If the exact booties are not available, I will link a similar option instead.

Suede can instantly add texture and soften an outfit; whether that’s in booties, a jacket, or a skirt.  You will find these boots in many different neutral shades that will compliment any wardrobe.  FYI: When purchasing suede booties, consider a heel that is not wrapped in suede, as they can get dirty and ruined very quickly.  I like to find ones that have a wooden or stacked heel, because I find that I get much more life out of them.  I learned this lesson the hard way…

Printed Ankle Booties

Taupe Snake Ankle Booties | Brown Snake Ankle Booties

*If the exact booties are not available, I will link a similar option instead.

Printed booties are an instant outfit maker! Adding a statement shoe is so much fun and gives a basic outfit some interest. I typically go for a pop of leopard or snakeskin, and it gives an outfit the proper finishing touch. Most animal print bootie options are in neutral colors (Black/Tan/Brown) and easily can be worked into any closet.

Flat & Low Ankle Booties

Suede Ankle Booties | Leather Ankle Booties

*If the exact booties are not available, I will link a similar option instead.

A busy lifestyle calls for a flat style ankle bootie. When you need to run around all day, but want to look chic, these will be your go to! These booties are very minimal and can be worn with practically anything. The low cut of these boots makes them very comfortable around the ankle area and the low heal makes them easy to wear.

I’d love to know what booties are your favorite?

Ballet Flats Are Back For Fall 2020

Flats in general are making a big come back this fall and winter.  There are many different styles out there right now; such as squared toe, cap toe, round toe, open toe, pointed toe, some with bows, t-straps, and even Mary Jane style.  A personal favorite of mine are the Tory Burch Mini Travel Ballet Flats, because of their classic and timeless style.  Not to mention how soft and comfortable they are!  These fold in half to take up less space in your purse/luggage, and are just great for traveling!

Tory Burch Ballet Flats

These Tory Burch Mini Travel Ballet Flats are available in many different color options. I sized up 1/2 a size to a Size 6.

Some other color options are available here!

Shirt | Pinafore Dress | Shoes

Style Tips & Tricks

To elongate your legs opt for a nude color ballet flats and wear them with bare legs. These look great with shorts, dresses and skirts that fall above the knee.

If wearing with pants, I’d suggest a cropped or ankle length style, to show off some of your ankle… its flattering!

If wearing with tight fitting pants (skinny jeans or leggings) let the pants be long and cover your ankles to create a long line.

Refrain from wearing these with socks or nylons, unless you want to look like a grandma… if you must wear socks, I’d suggest getting a pair of ultra low PEDS.

When we are able to travel again, I will be sure to take these with me. I hope you are all doing well and staying healthy.

How To Wear Monochrome This Fall

This season we are seeing this monochrome trend change from light neutrals (Cream/White/Tan/Beige) to darker neutrals (Brown/Black/Burgundy/Navy/Camel). Monochromatic looks will always be in style, since they are flattering on EVERYONE!  Dressing in one solid color creates one long line and creates an illusion of being taller and slimmer… Who doesn’t want that?

Sweater | Pants | Shoes

This Brown Tupelo Sweater is currently not available, so I linked a Pointelle-Knit cardigan sweater in the same color: Size XS

These high waisted chino slim wide leg pants come in Brown Tupelo, Black, Cherry Birch, and a Navy/White Stripe: Size 0P

My snake print sandals are from last year and are currently unavailable, so I linked a similar style from Sam Edelman: Size 6

Sweater | Skirt | Boots

This black cozy mock neck sweater is available is many color options: Size XSP

This black mini skater skirt is the perfect length for me being 5’1″: Size XS

Black Steve Madden ‘Missie’ Ankle Boots: Size 6

Tips & Tricks:

*If you don’t have pieces that match exactly, don’t worry.  You can easily recreate this look with different shades of the same color, and it looks wicked chic!

*When you color block an outfit (top and bottom don’t match), it can noticeably cut your body off. It’s important to make sure that where the colors meet is at your smallest part, not the widest.

*When shopping online and you find a top that you love, look so see what that manufacturer calls that color.  Use the search bar and type in that color to see if there are bottoms that match.  This is how I was able  to put together my ‘Tupelo Brown’ monochromatic outfit.

I hope this was helpful and I’ll see you soon! XOXO

Fall Shoe Trend 2020: #LOAFERS

This loafer trend has been around for a while, so its no surprise that we will be seeing a lot of it this fall.  They are comfortable, fashionable, and an extremely versatile shoe.  Flats in general are trending hard right now; which includes loafers, ballet flats, pointed toe flats, and even flat boots with no heel.  Comfort is a huge fashion movement for 2020 and I think we all know why… hello pandemic!

Steve madden loafers: https://amzn.to/3cd6FSe

These J Crew loafers are not currently available, but I found these Amazon Essentials loafers that look exactly the same… at 1/2 the price!

Amazon Essential Loafers: https://amzn.to/3mscRue

These loafers easily elevate any outfit.  Throw these on white a tee shirt and jeans… BOOM!  You are looking super chic.  I wear these with everything, from ankle length dress pants, cropped wide leg pants, skirts (mini/midi/pencil/maxi), and with dresses.

Style Tip:

If wearing these with a dress or skirt, try opting for a nude color that is close to your skin tone, as it will create the illusion of longer legs. A pointed toe flat is also very elongating and makes yours legs look so good!

Mule Style Loafers

These mule style loafers give me all the Gucci Princetown vibes! I find these to be very comfortable and it literally feels like wearing slippers. These are work appropriate and yet another great transitional shoe option. They are currently available is many different color options and sizes.

Simple & Chic Office Outfits

I think most of you ladies will already have these pieces in your wardrobe, but if not, you can easily substitute them with something else.  These are my go-to fall office outfits when I don’t have time to put something together.  I know I can reach for these pieces and it just works every time!

Start with a black pencil skirt and white button down….

Shirt | Skirt | Tights | Pumps

If your looking for a pair of tights that will last you… These thigh high black tights from Commando stay up all day and are fantastic!

Then I added a boyfriend fit blazer to add some visual interest. Adding a 3rd piece (jacket/vest/blazer/sweater) to an outfit instantly make you look more stylish.

Shirt | Skirt | Tights | Pumps | Blazer

Another easy style option is to add a sweater vest! This is another fun fall trend for 2020… I love anything menswear inspired.

Shirt | Skirt | Tights | Pumps | Vest

For this final look, I opted for a sweater blazer, and I love this French Girl Style vibe.

Shirt | Skirt | Tights | Pumps | Sweater Blazer

This J Crew Mercantile Sweater Blazer is currently 60% off!

Shop the newer style J Crew Sweater Blazer here:  https://amzn.to/2ZQP25D

Other Ways I’d Style This Simple Outfit:

Swap the white buttons down for… a fitted turtle neck, a loose knit sweater, a tee shirt camisole, or change out the white top for a different color or print.

Swap the pencil skirt for… trousers, a dress, a midi/mini skirt, or jeans!

Tips & Tricks:

*Changing out the third piece can change the look dramatically and add interest to an outfit.  The 3rd piece can be a cardigan, coat, belt, hat and/or sunglasses.

*Opt for a cardigan/jacket/blazer that’s cropped or one that hits past your hips.  When using a top layer, try to make it cut you off at your most flattering point, not your widest.  This will create an illusion of being taller, less frumpy, and thinner.  I personally am a cross between a rectangle and a hour glass body type, so doing this really makes my outfits look better.

*Tuck your shirt in to accentuate your smallest area.  If a shirt hits you at the hips, and that’s your widest part, it will make you look bigger than you are.

*Please know that being petite only means you are under 5’4”.  There are many different body types out there and there are different style tips for each. If you are looking for advice on your body type or want to know what you body type is, please reach out and I’ll be happy to assist you.  That’s what I do!

My Favorite Transitional Shoes!

These are the perfect transition shoe. When its too hot for a bootie, but not warm enough for sandals. These huarache sandals are perfect, since they cover most of your foot, yet still show your toes. As a petite, I appreciate the extra height these give and I love a shoe with a comfortable block heel. These shoes look great with dresses, jeans and everything in between!

These beauties are the ‘Sandrinas’ from Steve Madden, and unfortunately they are unavailable, since I purchased them last year. However, I found a few similar options that are just as great!

Shop the Korlettan style here: https://amzn.to/3kms0eQ

Shop the Allistan style here: https://amzn.to/3msriyE

Shop the Eshantel style here: https://amzn.to/35OvXVo

These come in 10 different color options!

Leopard Print is a Neutral.

This classic animal print is here to stay and there are numerous ways to wear leopard this fall (… all year long!). This is considered a fashion trend, but it comes back every year because it a classic and its timeless. I usually wear this print in shoes, a belt, or something minimal, but you can go bold with this trend as well.

Leopard print is considered a neutral because it literally matches everything. These warm neutral tones can be paired with any color, print, or pattern. I suggest keeping the rest of the outfit minimal when incorporating leopard print, so it can be the star of the show.

Top | Skirt | Shoes | Jewelry

I found this satin midi skirt at the Loft last year and it came in Petite sizing! When you are under 5’4″ its hard to find a midi skirt that hits at the right point. Unfortunately, this skirt is currently out of stock, but I found a great alternative for 1/2 the price!

Turtleneck | Skirt | Booties

When it gets colder, I would top the look off with a black oversized boyfriend fit blazer. Keeping the color pallet neutral and cohesive is key when wanting to look classy & chic.

Turtleneck | Skirt | Booties | Blazer

Style Tip:

Opt for leopard print that is on the smaller side. Generally speaking, when a print is too large it can make you look bigger than you really are, since it adds too much visual clutter and can overwhelm the eye. Its best to stick with prints that are smaller than the size of your hand/fist, because it will look much more flattering on the body.

Fall Trend 2020: Plaid/Tartan

Two fall trends of 2020 in this one blazer (Old Navy)!! This season you will find plaid in several different pieces and in many colors. I typically go for neutrals and gravitate towards pieces that are multipurpose… and this is just that. This would be appropriate for work with some dress pants, put this over a cute skirt for going out, or wear as a light fall coat with jeans and a tee shirt on the weekend. Plaid will be everywhere this season and will be found in pieces such as jackets, pants, shirts, boots, handbags, and even hair accessories.

The other fall 2020 trend this jacket embosses, is the fit; which is a boyfriend style blazer. This boyfriend fit is a little longer and looser than your typical fitted office blazer. I’d suggest wearing this style blazer with something more form fitting underneath, to avoid overwhelming your frame and to create balance.

Black Top | Romper/Pinafore | Booties

This plaid romper is no longer available, but this plaid pinafore will give you a similar look and the layering options are endless! This comes in multiple color options.

White Button Up | Romper/Pinafore | Tights | Pumps

Smart Casual Work Wear Outfits

Working at a car dealership, our dress code is business casual; which means I have a good amount of options on what I’m allowed to wear (just no jeans!). I love mixing high and low end pieces to help elevate an outfit. This is a snap shop of this weeks outfits and they are all petite friendly.

Blouse XSP | Pants 0P | Belt 70cm | Shoes 6

I’m wearing a pair of mid rise linen Sloan pants from Banana Republic, a sleeveless black blouse from Old Navy, Gucci belt and Sam Edelman midi heel sandals. Tucking in the shirt and the mixture of fabrics (linen, crepe, and leather), help keep the outfit interesting and polished.

Pants 0P | Blouse XSP | Pumps 6

I’m wearing navy blue high rise pixie pants and a sleeveless blouse from Old Navy. This top is available, but not in this print, so I listed the same exact sleeveless top but in a a black/white leopard print, but it also comes in black. Then I wore my favorite nude 12 – hour Madison pumps from Banana Republic.

V-neck top + high rise pants + nude pointed toe pumps = Perfect Petite Outfit!

Shirt Dress 2 | Sandals/Heels 6

Here, I’m wearing an olive green shirt dress with a tie waist from Old Navy, with a pair of nude Sam Edelman mid heel sandals. Unfortunately, this dress is unavailable, but I found an almost exact dupe, so I listed that above. This is the easiest outfit ever, no thinking involved! I love it because the tie waist accentuates my petite curves and the nude heels helps create the illusion of longer legs.

Dress XSP | Belt S | Pumps 6 | Tote O/S

Another timeless and minimal outfit. An all black monochrome look with a pop of animal print.

Petite Fashion Rule 101: Break them all!

IMG_2020

Hello loves, Welcome to the blog! I hope you are all doing well and are enjoying what we have left of summer.

As a petite woman, my best advice when ordering online is to make sure to know your body measurements. Please see the “About Me” tab in the menu, if you’d like more information on mine. There are many optical illusions and techniques that I will be sharing to help you achieve the look of a taller and slimmer frame. Really, who doesn’t want to look less frumpy?

**This post may contain affiliate links and I may earn a small commission when you click on the links at no additional charge to you. You may read my full disclaimer here.

To start, I tucked in my top to accentuate my smallest area, my waist. These white distressed jeans are from Abercrombie & Fitch, and they are the ‘Ripped Ultra High Rise Ankle Straight Jeans‘. I got these in a 25 Short inseam, and they hit at my ankle perfectly. A mid or high rise pant will help will elongate the legs and help make you appear taller. I’ve been gravitating more towards straight leg and wide leg pants recently, but I still love my skinny jeans. I know as a petite, a “rule” is to avoid oversized clothing… but lets forget about that. In the next few days I will show you how I play with my proportions to make it look chic. I also added a comfortable pair of block heels to add a little bit of height, because I will take every inch I can get!
