How to Style A Cardigan 5 Ways

I’m sure you will notice the color scheme… I live in neutrals! If I added a few more pieces I could turn this into a capsule wardrobe. I like to wear what I have and be able to use items in several different ways. Here is a snap shot of how I plan on wearing this camel colored cardigan (OLD NAVY) this fall.

Cardigan | White Button Down | Skirt | Belt | Pumps

In the first outfit I dressed this camel colored cardigan up with a black pencil skirt and a white button down top. You could easily switch out the collared shirt for a camisole, striped shirt, or printed blouse for another look. Then I finished the look with a black tote from Tory Burch, Salvatore Ferragamo belt, and Madison 12- hour pumps.

Cardigan | Gingham Button Up | Pants | Belt | Shoes

*These exact shoes are Sold Out, but I linked a similar option above.

For a smart casual look, I layered a blue and white checkered shirt underneath the cardigan, and paired with navy blue ankle pants. Then I finished the outfit with a camel colored Tory Burch tote, heels, and matching belt.

Cardigan | Jeans | Tee Shirt | Shoes

Here I opted for a very casual look. I styled this cardigan over a basic white tee shirt and a pair of high rise distressed straight cut jeans. To add some print to a rather minimal outfit I wore my Steve Madden snake skin loafers. These loafers come in several different color options and are very comfortable.

Cardigan | Dress | Leopard Belt | Pumps

Here, I styled the same Old Navy cardigan over a simple black dress and cinched the waist with a skinny leopard belt. Then I finished the look with my black pumps and Tory Burch tote. This is another great work wear option!

Cardigan | Dress | Hat | Leopard Belt | Booties

For a dressy casual look, all I did was swap out the pumps for these cute Steve Madden ankle boots, and added my favorite hat. Perfect outfit for a fall day and its all petite friendly!

Yes, you can wear wide leg pants!

I’ve always heard “Petites shouldn’t wear wide leg pants, because it overwhelms the petite frame”. NEWS FLASH! You can totally pull it off by creating some balance. If the pants are oversized, I would suggest wearing a fitted top to create a balance with the proportions. Also, going for a high rise will help accentuate your smallest area and will create an illusion of longer legs… be careful because if the rise is too high, it could make you look like you have no torso….Its all about balance!

What I wore to the office!

These high rise wide leg pants are currently 40% off and are from Banana Republic in the color sand dune beige. The top is from ASOS (they have a Petite Line too!), the bag is a black Tory Burch tote, and the shoes are Stuart Weitzman nudist heels. Literally felt like I was wearing pajamas to work.

What I wore over the weekend!

The pants are on sale right now from Abercrombie & Fitch, they are the high rise wide leg jean in 25 Short. I paired with it a fitted forest green top from Old Navy, my cognac Tory Burch York tote and Tory Burch Miller sandals. Another easy and minimal comfy outfit.

I’d love to know if your into the wide leg trend this year…

Smart Casual Work Wear Outfits

Working at a car dealership, our dress code is business casual; which means I have a good amount of options on what I’m allowed to wear (just no jeans!). I love mixing high and low end pieces to help elevate an outfit. This is a snap shop of this weeks outfits and they are all petite friendly.

Blouse XSP | Pants 0P | Belt 70cm | Shoes 6

I’m wearing a pair of mid rise linen Sloan pants from Banana Republic, a sleeveless black blouse from Old Navy, Gucci belt and Sam Edelman midi heel sandals. Tucking in the shirt and the mixture of fabrics (linen, crepe, and leather), help keep the outfit interesting and polished.

Pants 0P | Blouse XSP | Pumps 6

I’m wearing navy blue high rise pixie pants and a sleeveless blouse from Old Navy. This top is available, but not in this print, so I listed the same exact sleeveless top but in a a black/white leopard print, but it also comes in black. Then I wore my favorite nude 12 – hour Madison pumps from Banana Republic.

V-neck top + high rise pants + nude pointed toe pumps = Perfect Petite Outfit!

Shirt Dress 2 | Sandals/Heels 6

Here, I’m wearing an olive green shirt dress with a tie waist from Old Navy, with a pair of nude Sam Edelman mid heel sandals. Unfortunately, this dress is unavailable, but I found an almost exact dupe, so I listed that above. This is the easiest outfit ever, no thinking involved! I love it because the tie waist accentuates my petite curves and the nude heels helps create the illusion of longer legs.

Dress XSP | Belt S | Pumps 6 | Tote O/S

Another timeless and minimal outfit. An all black monochrome look with a pop of animal print.

Petite Fashion Rule 101: Break them all!

IMG_2020

Hello loves, Welcome to the blog! I hope you are all doing well and are enjoying what we have left of summer.

As a petite woman, my best advice when ordering online is to make sure to know your body measurements. Please see the “About Me” tab in the menu, if you’d like more information on mine. There are many optical illusions and techniques that I will be sharing to help you achieve the look of a taller and slimmer frame. Really, who doesn’t want to look less frumpy?

To start, I tucked in my top to accentuate my smallest area, my waist. These white distressed jeans are from Abercrombie & Fitch, and they are the ‘Ripped Ultra High Rise Ankle Straight Jeans‘. I got these in a 25 Short inseam, and they hit at my ankle perfectly. A mid or high rise pant will help will elongate the legs and help make you appear taller. I’ve been gravitating more towards straight leg and wide leg pants recently, but I still love my skinny jeans. I know as a petite, a “rule” is to avoid oversized clothing… but lets forget about that. In the next few days I will show you how I play with my proportions to make it look chic. I also added a comfortable pair of block heels to add a little bit of height, because I will take every inch I can get!

“A good friend knows all your best stories, but a best friend has lived them with you” -Unknown

This all started as an idea. A few years ago we went out for dinner and drinks – to de stress from the work day. The restaurant we went to happened to be doing trivia that night and we decided to play along. We had to come up with a group name… Since we are both Italian and petite, we came up with Petite Tomatoes. Ever since then, we have consistently talked about starting a fashion blog, and with her encouragement, it’s become a reality. So please bare with me as I get started… Its going to be a challenge, but she gave me the kick in the butt I needed. I’d love it if you’d follow me on Instagram @petite.tomatoes (that’s where I post my ‘outfit of the day). and be sure to check out my friend Erika on Instagram @fortheloveofturquoise_ as she is starting her own blogging journey as well! You might be seeing this beauty on the blog, so stay tuned!
